Purpose : To evaluate the clinical result of the treatment for acute rupture of Achilles tendon which consisted of early weight bearing and joint motion after repair by Krackow method.
Materials and Methods : Repair was done by Krackow method and active joint motion was started from three to seven days after operation. Weight bearing with short leg brace in gravity equinus position was allowed immediately after surgery. The degree of dorsiflexion limitation was adjusted to 10 degrees less than the range of active dorsiflexion.
Results : All patients returned to their regular job within three weeks after repair and were able to walk full weight bearing in short leg brace with neutral ankle position within six weeks after repair. At three months after surgery, all could walk without any external support and full activity was allowed. We have experienced no infection or rerupture.
Conclusion : This study suggests that early joint motion and weight bearing is a safe and satisfactory method of rehabilitation after Achilles tendon repair by Krackow method.
